Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan has ancient roots tracing back to the beginnings of Indian civilization, with its historical significance mentioned in the Bhavishya Purana, a Hindu text that recounts Vedic rituals. Originally, the festival centered around tying threads or amulets for protection, with priests using sacred threads as charms to ward off misfortune and attract blessings.

Hindu Remembrance Day

Hindu Rememberance Day (UK) takes place on Saturday 28th September 2024. All Hindu organisations across the UK are encouraged to host an event to pay tribute to the lives of generations of Hindus who have sacrificed their lives for Hindu Dharma. These events should be in person, held at Temples, Samaj Halls and other locations where the community can come together.

For participating organizations, the Hindu Memorial Day team has devised a short program of approximately 50 minutes consisting of prayers, bhajans and a short speech. You will also be required to play a short video (15-20 minutes) which explains the significance of this day. You may extend this session with additional bhajans and prayers - although we recommend that the entire program should not exceed 90 minutes. The aim of the program is to encourage as many members as possible of the community, particularly young people, to attend. So a shorter program is advisable.

A link to the video will be emailed to your organizations in the week prior to Saturday 28th September 2024. In the meantime, we encourage you to print out this document, read it through
and use the script below to guide your event on Hindu Memorial Day. All the speeches have been created for you. Other than gathering the items in the list below, there is minimal preparation
required. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Hindu Memorial Day team at info@hindumemorialday.uk
